AMD Radeon RX 5500 Positioned for 1080P Gaming

AMD Radeon RX 5500 Positioned for 1080P Gaming

GPUs Nov 8,2019 0

AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 5500 mid-range graphics cards are set to be released soon targetting 1080p gamers.

According to marketing material that appeared on the web, the RX 5500 is built on the EDNA architecture, supports FidelityFX and Radaon Imade Sharpening technologies to make games look better and is equipped with up to 4GB GDDR6 memory and PCI Express 4.0 support.

The RX 5500 is based on the 7 nm "Navi 14" silicon and is configured with 22 RDNA compute units, amounting to 1,408 stream processors. The GPU features a 128-bit wide GDDR6 memory bus, which is paired with either 4 GB or 8 GB of memory running at 14 Gbps data-rate, yielding 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Its GPU clocks are listed as 1670 MHz "gaming," and 1845 MHz boost. The typical board power is rated at 110 W, and AMD's reference-design board features a single 8-pin PCIe power input.

AMD clains that the RX 5500 is offering up to 49% more performance in 1080p AAA gaming and up to 37% in Esports gaming at 1080p, compared to Nvdia's GTX1650 offering. Obviously, the AMD's document was made before the launch of the GTX 1660 and the GTX 1660 Super.

According to AMD, the RX 5500 should provide "excellent" AAA gaming at 1080p, fairly smooth gaming at high settings ("better"), "excellent" e-Sports gaming, and "better" 1440p gaming. The card is also "excellent" at all non-gaming graphics.

Even though AMD has already announced the Radeon RX 5500, we still don't have a concrete date when they will hit the market. On the contrary, Nvidia has confirmed that the GeForce GTX 1650 Super will arrive on November 22, a little less than two weeks from today.
