AT&T TV Launches Today

AT&T TV Launches Today

Enterprise & IT Mar 2,2020 0

Today AT&T launches a new live TV service, AT&T TV, which offers access to live TV, titles on demand, 500 hours of Cloud DVR, and access to other apps like Netflix and Pandora, AT&T TV.

The new service, AT&T TV, will have most of the same channels offered on DirecTV, but it’ll come over the internet rather than a satellite dish.

AT&T will send subscribers a 4K-enabled Android streaming-TV box to use the service. The free device will also come with Netflix and other streaming apps, the way Comcast’s X1 cable box does. Additional boxes cost $120.

Powered by Android TV, it includes live TV packages with channels and offers access to your live TV and apps with one device without having to switch inputs.

AT&T TV works with a compatible high-speed internet connection. AT&T's customers can bundle AT&T TV and 1 gigabit AT&T Internet for $39.99/month for video and $39.99/month for internet for 12 months with a 24-month TV agreement where available.

AT&T TV includes:

  • Live TV packages, sports and access to more than 5,000 apps on the Google Play Store, including streaming apps—like HBO Max when it launches in May 2020. For example, you can switch between a live basketball game, Netflix, YouTube or listen to music on Pandora or Spotify. No need to pick up a different remote or switch inputs.
  • Voice remote with the Google Assistant. You'll be able to access the Assistant both on and off-screen and search for content across your apps with a simple word or phrase – everything from accessing a show, changing the room temperature, playing a music playlist, dimming the lights and more.
  • A cloud DVR with 500 hours of storage. You can record as many shows at once as you want, in your home or on-the-go. You can also stream sports, shows and movies virtually anytime, anywhere on the AT&T TV app on your smartphone or tablet.

AT&T TV packages start at $49.99/month for 12 months with a 24-month agreement if you buy as a standalone service.

The channel lineups and prices are comparable with what’s available from DirecTV, but AT&T TV doesn’t have NFL Sunday Ticket, a package of out-of-market football games.

AT&T is trying to adapt to the shift to streaming video, as subscribers to traditional cable and satellite TV services fall. In May, it’s launching HBO Max, a $15-a-month streaming service that will marry HBO shows with original programs and TV shows and movies from WarnerMedia. AT&T also has an online package that started as a cheaper service with fewer channels than a traditional bundle, but it is shedding customers after price increases. AT&T is now trying to downplay that service in favor of the new AT&T TV.
