Boston Dynamics Robot Dog Spot Now Available

Robotics company Boston Dynamics is renting out one of its stars, Spot.

The company's dog-like robot climbs stairs and traverses rough terrain with ease, yet is small enough to use indoors. Built to be a rugged and customizable platform, Spot has been designed to autonomously accomplishes industrial sensing and remote operation needs. Spot
can also carry up to 14kg (30lb); stand back up if it falls; and work in temperatures ranging from -20C to 45C.

Its specifications include:

  • a top speed of 3mph (4.8km/h)
  • a run time of 90 minutes
  • a programmable interface

What about its price? It costs "less than the price of a car", Boston Dynamics said, without disclosing the exact amount.

The company has built 100 test Spots is is now ramping up into mass production.
