Plextor CD-Rom problem with Safedisc CDs..

Plextor CD-Rom problem with Safedisc CDs..

General Interest Oct 8,1999 0

As i had wrote when i tested Plextor PX-40TS the big value of Read Retry Count makes it not so good for reading CDs with error (as Safedisc CDs..) However for people who had that problem Plextor had un-officially released a utility which helped users to force Plextor CD Rom read such CDs..But it seems this utility isn;t working properly :

"..The guy i talked to at plextor mentioned that after prolongued use of this software, the plextor drive will fail. He said he had many drives come in with that problem. I'm only going to use it to play games with SafeDisc protection.."

What you mean fail ?..means that will be damaged from that util ?..and if this is true why plextor isn;t notifying users not to use it ?

"..Why isn't plextor warning users? Well, I asked him that, and quite frankly, it's because this software does not exist (you CANNOT obtain this software from plextor, it is only given to those having problems with safedisc protected games). It is not supported by plextor and if damages occur, plextor will NOT replace the drive if it is damaged from this program. However he also said the fix is coming very soon and it won't require any of these programs to be used in order to make SafeDisc protected games work properly..

I emailed C-dilla (makers of SafeDisc) for a patch, and they let me beta test some software, it is the spin down software by Plextor but version 1.02 and it only spins at 8x rather than full 40x... however when I talked to the guy at Plextor he said EVEN AT 8x damages can occur because the drive never shuts off. However, I think Plextor may just be trying to cover their tail a bit, because I doubt problems would occur - I mean hell, if you're using the drive, why would it fail at 40x or below? It is after all a 40x drive..." NULL
