RWWPI Compatibility Tests Completed

The RW Products Promotion initiative (RWWPPI) and the Recordable DVD Council (RDVDC) have completed their latest compatibility tests jointly conducted since June 2006. The test results were announced on Feb. 23 at Grand Formosa Regent hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.

The tests were conducted on products compatible with recordable DVD: 6x to 12x speed DVD-RAM, 8cm DVD-RW, 16x DVD-R and 4x and 8x DVD-R DL.

Forty seven companies participated in the compatibility tests, and 405 items on a total of 164 models were tested. Examinations regarding recording/playback compatibility at targeted recording speeeds (DVD-RAM 6x to 12x, 8cm DVD-RW: 2x, DVD-R DL: 4x and 8x) were conducted for products provided by major manufacturers of hardware, media and PC applications.

The overall compatibility of DVD-R/RW products reached the 98%, while the results for the DVD-RAM related products was 100%.

Regarding the physical recording properties of DVD-RAM (6x to 12x) and compatible writers, tests were conducted for nine DVD burner manufacturers and two DVD-RAM disc models.

The DVD-RW/DVD-R physical recording properties tests included 24 disc manufacturers (29 models) and nine writer manufacturers (10 models).

Recording / playback compatibility tests of DVD-RW /DVD-R writers included 8 manufacturers (10 models).

Regarding to DVD-RW/DVD-R compatible recorders, DVD camcorders and PC authoring software, high compatibility for 16 items relevant to recording, playback and editing functions (video mode, VR mode, DVD-R compatible with CPRM, DVD-R DL and 8cm discs) was reported, among 9 manufacturers (11 models).

The RWWPI has scheduled to hold a joint promotion event at CeBIT, Hanover, Mar. 9-15.
