Sony Unveils Next-Generation of CD-Rewritable Drives

Sony Unveils Next-Generation of CD-Rewritable Drives

General Interest Oct 26,1999 0

"..Sony will expand its family of Spressa CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) drives with four (two internal, two external) new models that offer faster reading and recording speeds for storing, managing and sharing information such as data, text and images. The new drives feature easy-to-use software for Windows and Macintosh platforms designed for the professional, corporate, small office/home office and consumer users.
Three of the drives, the Spressa Professional SCSI & EIDE (CRX140S/C, CRX140E/CH) and Spressa i.LINK (CRX140E/X), now support 8X recording of CD-R media and enhanced CD-ROM maximum reading performance of 32X and the Spressa USB Plus drive (CRX100E/X2), now supports quad speed (4X) CD-RW recording -- twice the speed of the previous version.

Spressa i. LINK CD-RW Drive
Sony's Spressa i.LINK (CRX140E/X) model is an 8X recording (CD-R), 4X recording (CD-RW), 32X (max.) reading external drive incorporating Sony's emerging i.LINK (IEEE1394) high-speed interface as well as improved Macintosh and Windows software suites. Sony's i.LINK technology enables maximum speed and performance and allows other multimedia peripherals including digital video and still cameras to be easily daisy-chained. Additionally, because i.LINK is "hot plugable"' devices can be attached or removed after the computer has been turned on, making it simple to share the CD-RW drive with other systems. Drive availability November - ESP $349.

Spressa USB Plus CD-RW Drive
For Mac and PC consumers and some corporate end users, the Spressa USB Plus (CRX100E/X2) model is an external drive incorporating the popular USB interface that supports quad speed (4X) maximum recording on CD-R and CD-RW media, 6X maximum reading performance of CD-ROM and 2MB of buffer memory. Drive availability October- ESP $399.

Spressa Professional SCSI & EIDE CD-RW Drive
Sony's Spressa Professional SCSI (CRX140S/C) and Professional EIDE (CRX140E/CH) are designed users who desire an 8X recording (CD-R), 4X recording (CD-RW), 32X (max.) reading internal SCSI-2 or EIDE drive offering exceptional speed, performance and reliability.." NULL
