3. Tests
The drive is brand new and has the latest firmware installed. Let’s start our tests. The Toshiba HDD was connected with a SATA cable to an Asus ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI with 1807 BIOS paired with AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, a very fast PC system so we should get the maximum possible performance.
The AJA System Test gives a rough idea of the drive's performance. We got around 264MB/sec writing and 272MB/sec reading, nice results here.
The ATTO Disk benchmark gives us more details about the drive's performance, depending the used file size, performance shoud be best above 4k sized files:
Above 4K files we got around 253MB/sec reading and 253MB/sec writing speeds as the ATTO Disk Benchmark v4.00 reports, numbers slight lower than above.
Passing to the CrystalDiskMark software we got results from 3.01, 6.02, 7 and the latest 8.01 versions. The performance in all cases is similar for the sequential reading/writing speed.
Via the GSmartControl software we do get more information about the drive and also had measurements about the internal HDD temperatures.
The drive at idle mode was running at 32 Celsius and has working temperatures from 5 up to 60 Celsius, while recommended temperatures are between 10 and 40 Celsius.
After long stressing the drive, the temperature reached 39 Celsius, which should be OK even for 24/7 operation.
While working with I/O Meter software won't introduce high performance (remember this is an HDD drive), we noticed a 25.46ms average I/O Response time, with a maximum of 661.28ms.
Since we have already tested the 20TB version we gathered several comparison tests between both drives:

The above comparison tests showed that the MG10 20TB is faster than then 22TB variation at least for the sequential tests. However at the random RND4K Q32T1 / Q1T1, especially at the writing part, the MG10 22TB is much faster up to 4 times. So it seems Toshiba dropped reading/writing speeds in favor of random reading/writing performance.
We also tested if the drive will slow down, when writing files, which is important when transferring big files, our source was a Samsung 980Pro 1TB NVME SSD drive with two big files, the average writing speed for the 44GB file was around 260MB/sec,
, while for the 200GB file size was around 259ΜΒ/sec, no slowdown here.
